What the estimate includes
For sales between private individuals, the Valencian Community applies fixed amounts to certain vehicles over twelve years old, worth less than 20,000 euros and not historic. In other cases a percentage of the tax base applies: 8% in the cases published by the Generalitat and 6% otherwise.
The DGT publishes a fee of 55.70 euros for change of ownership of vehicles and 27.85 euros for mopeds. Professional fees, the DGT report, translations, cancelling a retention of title and incidents are not included.

Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator give the final price?
No. It estimates transfer tax and the DGT fee. It does not include professional fees, the vehicle report, cancellations, translations or incidents, and the administration may set a different tax base.
Who pays the transfer tax?
In a used sale between private individuals, the buyer normally settles it. If a trader sells with an invoice, the VAT treatment is reviewed and the ordinary transfer tax calculation does not apply.
How long do I have to change ownership?
The DGT states that the buyer must change ownership within thirty days of signing the contract.
Can it be transferred with an expired ITV?
The change of ownership can be processed, but the vehicle cannot be driven with an expired ITV. It must be taken to the inspection without being driven.
What if there is a retention of title?
It must be cancelled in the relevant register before the DGT completes the change. A prior DGT report detects this and other charges.
