When your residence permit renewal in Spain is approved, schedule an appointment to submit your fingerprints at the police through the electronic government services website. You have already undergone this procedure when obtaining your initial residence permit. Now, it needs to be repeated to renew your Spanish resident card (Tarjeta de residencia).
Do not delay making an appointment, as the number of available slots is limited. Choose a date no earlier than the day after your previous card expires. If you come earlier, you will not be accepted.
Bring the following items to your fingerprint appointment:
- Old resident card;
- Passport (original and a scan of the main page);
- Application form EX-17;
- Proof of registration (volante o certificado de empadronamiento) dated within the last 3 months (original + photocopy);
- Receipt of payment for the state fee for the resident card issuance using form Modelo 790 Codigo 012;
- Passport-sized photo (foto carnet).
We do not recommend providing photos taken in Russia, as they likely won't meet the Spanish format.Foto carnet — color document photos with a light background:
- Width: 26 mm, Height: 32 mm;
- Head height: about 23.5 mm;
- From the top of the head to the edge of the photo: at least 2 mm.
You will receive your new Tarjeta de residencia in approximately 30 days.
Keep in mind that while your new resident card is being prepared, you will not have valid travel documents for at least a month. Plan your trips accordingly. Remember, in case of an urgent need to leave Spain during this period, you will need to obtain a return authorization (Autorización de regreso).
